Shaun is a 4th
generation San Diego native and has lived here in San Diego all her life.
As a child drawing was always her first love. In the 3rd grade she saw
a short film in class about pottery. “I was hooked immediately.
It was years later, in high school that I finally got to throw my first pot.
It was then that I decided that I wanted to be a potter!” She continued working with clay through high school and college. She took a 10-year hiatus to work, marry and start a family. “I have two amazing daughters and a wonderful husband who is incredibly supportive and makes my indulgence in clay and my childhood dream possible!” “I wanted and needed to get back into clay and discovered clay associates in 1989. I walked in and it felt immediately like home.” She started as a student and in 1995 was accepted as an Associate. “I love to blend the aspects of drawing with the three-dimensional quality of clay. Texture and carving always holds a fascination for me. I find inspiration in the nature that surrounds us. I am inspired by so many different styles of pottery yet I still seem to come back to form and function. I absolutely love to be able to put pottery to work. If someone has a piece of mine, I want them to use it! That is what it is meant for, and yet, I also want it to be beautiful and unique and give people joy when they see and touch it.” Shaun balance’s an overflowing life with her desire to grow in her art. “In upcoming years I plan on delving deeper into all aspects of pottery that I want to explore. I have been fortunate to live the life that I want, and so far it has been an incredible ride!” |
