Mary
Cuzick began working with clay in 1989 when she took her first class from
David Cuzick. They were married in 1996. David continues to exert a strong
and positive influence on her pottery. Mary also took classes taught
by Elizabeth Woolrych, another member of the San Diego Potters' Guild.
She studied the work of local potters like Ed Thompson, Steve Dominguez
and Ted Seito. She read lots of issues of CLAYTIMES and CERAMICS MONTHLY,
and took workshops with Cynthia Bringle, Peter Pinnell, Paul Soldner, Malcolm
Davis, and Stephen Hill. Then she spent a lot of hours just making pots.
These days most of her work is made with high fired porcelain clay.
Mary used to write poetry but quit because it was so morose. She thought, "Who wants to be remembered for giving the world another sad story"? Now her carved and hand-painted cups and bowls reflect playfulness she is happy to share. Her "signature" is whimsical and joyful pottery. Click here to visit Mary's ceramics website. |
