Emiko Honda was born and raised in Okinawa, Japan. Emiko
developed an
interest in art at an early age and continued through junior and senior
high school. After earning a degree in office administration, she
began to
study glass etching and pottery in 1998 at a studio with an instructor from
the University of Okinawa.
After moving to Singapore in 1999, Emiko continued to study pottery with
a
local Singaporean artist until moving to San Diego in March 2002.
Since arriving in San Diego, Emiko began studying under various Japanese
artists at the Kita Ceramics studio, downtown San Diego. She also
took
classes at the San Diego Education Cultural Complex.
In 2003 Emiko began studying at the University of California, San Diego
and
has continued to work primarily from the UCSD craft center.
She also took classes at San Diego City College in 2006.
In March 2006, Emiko was selected to join the San Diego Potters Guild.
