Born and raised in Japan. She now lives in the U.S. In her ceramic work as well as her cooking, it is obvious that the East meets the West and the Japanese tradition challenges the Western contemporary features. She is on the teaching staff at U.C.S.D. Crafts Center in charge of the ceramic classes for Japanese speakers. Currently she is a member of the San Diego Potters Guild and the Allied Craftsmen of San Diego.
"Poetry of clay" sums up her work as a whole. Lyrical elements are important to her. If someone detects serenity and tranquility in her work she feels she has communicated and attained her goal. The motifs of nature and seasons are often used for the surface decorations. Colorful and dramatic finish of crystalline glazes can be seen on simple yet subtle forms: subdued yet rich finishes such as raku, bronze and black crystals are applied to more complicated and dynamic styles of her work. Handbuilt teapots such as "Shrine for Prayer Dots" is an example. "Prayer Dots" applied with slip on these teapots are one of her trademarks.
Out of so many styles of work she creates, teapots evoke her never exhausting curiosity and creativity. The balance of different parts and the choice of finish and firing for each work is a challenge.
