My pieces are narrative in nature and are reflections of contemporary issues that are relevant to my life. The inspiration for my pieces comes from my daily experiences, things I read, hear or observe. My recurrent themes have to do with the plight of endangered species, immigration and culture, consumerism and the dynamics and life cycles of predator vs prey. The things I observe around me at times cause a level of anxiety and helplessness about how to instigate awareness and change. I deal with that tension by designing and building ceramic sculptures. I believe an artist’s role is to make people contemplate themes that are presented to them visually and to instigate a reaction or awareness regarding their visual experience. By combining different aspects of a concept, I create a new whole that is original and that is different from anything made before. That, to me, is the challenge and excitement of ART, creating something new out of nothing.
