Erin is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist who explored a range of creative mediums before discovering a deep connection to ceramics, which has since become her full-time practice.
Drawn to clay for its balance of structure and spontaneity, she creates pieces that blend functional design with figurative artistic expression. Each wheel-thrown vessel is hand-altered, sculpted, and emphasizes distinctly stamped surfaces. Working outside traditional academic paths, Erin developed her style through hands-on exploration in her home studio with an intuitive approach to making. Her ceramic forms are inspired by the native flora and fauna of the San Diego region from which she was born and raised. Highly stylized and meticulously rendered, her sculptures employ symmetry, crisp edges, and simplified forms to achieve a bold graphic quality. While working with clay, I am drawn to forms that emerge organically from the material itself. Wildlife often takes shape in the curves, textures and silhouettes of my work, revealing unexpected links between functional objects and nature. Whether a figure arises subtly from a vessel or becomes the focal point of a sculpture, each piece reflects my ongoing fascination with the natural world, particularly the stories embedded in our local landscape here in Southern California. |
