The San Diego Potters’ Guild is both a professional ceramic arts organization and a cooperative gallery located in the Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park. Our Guild was established in 1958 and has grown to a membership of over 40 Studio Potters. The Guild has a limited juried membership and will be holding their next jury at their Studio 29 in Spanish Village on April 7, 2025. The Guild will also hold an optional workshop before the jury on February 16, 2025 to help applicants with the jurying process.

The Guild Members will be judging your work based on craftsmanship, personal identity, and aesthetics. Your pottery should be a cohesive body of work that shows your technical mastery of both form and surface. Your pieces should be of a high quality and free from basic flaws, i.e., no crack marks, a finished smooth foot, tightly fitted lids, etc. We will be looking for a strong sense of personal style in your work which communicates your individuality. The work should also reflect the type of work you will be selling in our gallery.

Pre-jury Workshop – February 16, 2025, 4:30-6pm

• The purpose of the Pre-jury workshop is to provide information and to put applicants in the best position for success.  This event is recommended, but not required, for the jurying process in April. Please RSVP by contacting Evan Lopez at [email protected].
• For the workshop, bring 7 pieces of your recent work to the San Diego Potters’ Guild, Studio 29, Spanish Village Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101.  This is a time for applicants to meet the Jurying Committee, get information about the Guild, feedback on your work, and ask questions.

Membership Jurying – April 7, 2025

• Deliver your pottery on Saturday, April 5 or Sunday, April 6 from 11am – 4pm, to San Diego Potters’ Guild, Studio 29, Spanish Village, Balboa Park, San Diego CA 92101. 
• Submit 7 pieces of your recent work along with your signed application (download application from our website). Please label all pieces with your name. Sign in on the applicant’s sign-in sheet at the Potters’ Guild. Bring proof of San Diego County residency.
• Work can be picked up on Tuesday, April 8 or Wednesday April 9. Our daily hours are 11am – 4pm.
• All applicants will be notified by email or regular mail after the jury.
