Pessia was raised in the Pacific Northwest and exposed to clay in her early teens. “I remember trying my hand at the wheel, failing, smashing my hodgepodge little bowl, and pushing, poking it, into a new shape and form. My love for sculpture was born.” She began to explore a fascination for faces and fantasy in a train of sculptural work that became increasingly more emotive as her artistic voice developed. Fifteen years later, she has traveled the world and explored many forms of creativity, but returned always to the messy, muddy, expression of clay. In 2022 she made a home here in San Diego and began the pursuit of her art career in full earnest.
Pessia continues to incorporate her sculptural roots by giving unique attention to each piece. She is inspired by the rustic beauty of nature, hand-carving animal skulls, wood grain, ocean life and other organic imagery on the surface of the clay. She uses techniques like relief carving and sgraffito with primarily thrown and altered forms. Each piece is one of a kind. Her work is a high fire porcelain, with Parent Pottery proprietary glazes. |
