Jen Allen is a studio potter, educator and mom who lives and works in Morgantown, WV. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University and a BFA from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Her studio work draws inspiration from holiday meals (specifically, Thanksgiving at her grandmother’s house in rural Virginia), historical ceramics and Asian/American textiles. Jen's most recent work focuses on texture and how a monochromatic palette with raised and recessed decoration can communicate in a tactile way. To find out more about Jen and her work, please visit her website: jenniferallenceramics.com. In this workshop Jen presents her personal exploration of form: by making simple alterations on wheel-thrown forms, pointing out that interesting forms can be developed using the simplest of studio tools that every potter has in their tool box. She will demonstrate her darting and decorating techniques, from the greenware stage all the way through the glaze. Free Slide lecture Friday, January 26, 6 - 7:30 pm at SDSU (room Art 412) |
