Izzy Elizondo
Luck brought pottery into my life when I was a high-school student at La Puente High School in a suburb of East Los Angeles. By chance the school, unremarkable in many ways had an exceptional ceramics program. I have been a student of pottery ever since.
I appreciate the combination of physicality and aesthetics provided by working with clay. Sometimes the work is very muscular, as when wedging large quantities of clay, sometimes it is delicate and precise as when shaping a small porcelain vase. Always I am striving to capture some sense of grace and beauty. I enjoy taking raw clay and creating pleasing forms, classic and otherwise and then embellishing them with texture through carving and other techniques. When I sit down to create a piece it's a meditative experience, which absorbs me both mind and body. Izzy on KUSI news:
