Ceramic artist Lisa Maher creates one-of-a-kind, wheel-thrown, and sculptural objects that explore the full spectrum and possibilities of clay. Combining hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, she produces both functional and sculptural art, often blending whimsical imagery with utilitarian forms. Her sculptural pieces begin with moments of inspiration, leading to explorations of organic shapes and everyday objects. Much of her work is fired in an electric kiln at mid-range temperatures, using a variety of commercial and experimental glazes.
For more than twenty-five years, Lisa has exhibited her work nationally, and it has been featured in publications including Lark Books (Low Fire Surface Decoration, Ceramic Design Book, Alternative Kilns, Firing Techniques, and 500 Prints on Clay) and The Best of New Ceramic Art. She is a member of the Allied Craftsmen of San Diego, San Diego Potters’ Guild, and Clay Artists of San Diego. Lisa maintains her studio in La Jolla, California. Her pottery is available for purchase at the San Diego Potters’ Guild, Spanish Village Art Center, San Diego, and during her December pottery sale at her La Jolla studio.
